In the case of "regulated professions" such as doctors, lawyers or nurses, the degree must be recognized before the profession can be practiced. If the profession is not regulated, however, recognition is not necessary. Here too, however, recognition improves the chances on the German labor market.

In addition, this flyer explains in Ukrainian the steps to be taken for the recognition of foreign professional qualifications in Germany. Refugees can also get free advice and support from a counseling center of the funding program "Integration through Qualification" (IQ). Here is the list of IQ counseling centers in Germany: Anerkennung_IQ_Beratungsangebote_bundesweit. Many job centers are also happy to cover the costs of translating their qualifications.
On the subject of recognition, you can also call 030-1815 1111 free of charge and help your mentee get advice. The hotline is called "Working and Living in Germany" and is operated by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. Unfortunately, the hotline is not available in Russian and Ukrainian.
